H.R. No. 972

R E S O L U T I O N

WHEREAS, Randy K. Boyd of Victoria was inducted into the

Texas Steel Guitar Association Hall of Fame on March 8, 2025; and

WHEREAS, Born into a musical family in Port Lavaca, Mr. Boyd

received early instruction from his father; he was also inspired by

his uncle, Leroy Key, an electric guitarist, and recorded him in

order to learn scales and songs; and

WHEREAS, Mr. Boyd and his longtime bandmate, bassist John L.

Sullivan, formed their friendship in the mid-1970s, playing in the

worship band at First Assembly of God Church in Bloomington; they

went on to play at opries across South Texas and eventually

accompanied artists nationwide; over the years, Mr. Boyd has

performed with such stars as Charley Pride, the Bellamy Brothers,

and John Wayne Schulz of
American Idol
fame; and

WHEREAS, In 2019, Mr. Boyd was named Player of the Year by the

Texas Steel Guitar Association; he leads the Steel Guitar Club of

Victoria, and he and Mr. Sullivan manage the Crossroads Country

Opry in Victoria, where they appear monthly with a band that also

includes Mr. Boyd's wife, Ann; in addition, they play old-time

gospel hymns on Sundays at Branded Cowboy Church in Victoria; and

WHEREAS, Over the course of more than 55 years, Randy Boyd has

delighted countless fans and earned the respect and admiration of

his fellow musicians, and he is richly deserving of this

prestigious honor; now, therefore, be it

RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 89th Texas

Legislature hereby congratulate Randy K. Boyd on his induction into

the Texas Steel Guitar Association Hall of Fame and extend to him

sincere best wishes for continued success; and, be it further

RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be

prepared for Mr. Boyd as an expression of high regard by the Texas

House of Representatives.
