A BILL TO BE ENTITLED

AN ACT

relating to reports regarding county jail prisoners confined in

out-of-state jails.

BE IT ENACTED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF TEXAS:

SECTION 1. Chapter 511, Government Code, is amended by

adding Section 511.01055 to read as follows:

511.01055.

REPORTS REGARDING PRISONERS CONFINED IN

OUT-OF-STATE JAILS. (a) Not later than February 1 of each year,

each county jail shall submit to the commission a report regarding

the confinement of prisoners in out-of-state jails during the

preceding calendar year due to overcrowding in the county jail. The

report must include:

(1)

the total number of prisoners confined in

out-of-state jails; and

(2)

the total number of prisoners who died while

confined in out-of-state jails.

(b)

The commission shall prescribe a form for the report

required by Subsection (a).

(c)

Not later than March 1 of each year, the commission

shall submit a report summarizing the information submitted under

Subsection (a) for the preceding calendar year to the governor, the

lieutenant governor, the speaker of the house of representatives,

and each standing committee of the legislature with primary

jurisdiction over the commission.

SECTION 2. This Act takes effect September 1, 2025.
