SENATE RESOLUTION NO. 259

WHEREAS, The Senate of the State of Texas is pleased to

recognize members of the Hindu faith who reside in Texas and all

who are joining in celebration of the occasion of Holi, which is

taking place on March 14, 2025; and

WHEREAS, Holi, also known as the Festival of Colors, is an

ancient Hindu spring festival and one of the most revered and

joyous holidays in India; it is celebrated across the world by

people of diverse nationalities and religions to mark the start

of spring and to symbolize harmony, new beginnings, and the

triumph of good over evil; and

WHEREAS, The festival lasts for a night and a day and begins

on the evening of the last full moon of the Hindu lunar year,

typically in February or March; the celebration includes a bonfire,

and attendees gather to express merriment through song and dance to

overcome negativity in preparation for the new year; and

WHEREAS, The following day, people of all social

backgrounds dress in white and join together to cover each other

with brightly colored water and powders that represent the joy

and enthusiasm of the festival; in the evening, people gather

with loved ones to enjoy festive foods and to honor family,

friends, and various Hindu deities; and

WHEREAS, The origins of this jubilant festival can be

traced back many centuries to various legends in Indian

mythology, and the event is recognized and celebrated throughout

the world by people of all backgrounds who relate to the

festival's themes of love, renewal, and progress; and

WHEREAS, The celebration of Holi is a vibrant expression of

the cultural heritage and traditions that serve to strengthen and

connect the many diverse cultures and communities that make up

the unique fabric of the Lone Star State; now, therefore, be it

RESOLVED, That the Senate of the State of Texas, 89th

Legislature, hereby extend to all participating in the

festivities of Holi best wishes for a rewarding and joyous

celebration; and, be it further

RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution be prepared in

honor of this special occasion.
