SENATE RESOLUTION NO. 399

In Memory

of

Cheryl Crain

WHEREAS, Countless lives were touched by the kindness and

generosity of Cheryl Elise Crain of Round Rock, who passed away

on January 1, 2025, at the age of 78; and

WHEREAS, The daughter of John William Reeves and Nellie Mae

Reeves, the former Cheryl Reeves was born in Fort Worth on May 28,

1946, and she grew up in a loving Christian home with the

companionship of two brothers, John and Gary; after graduating

from Arlington Heights High School, she earned her bachelor's

degree from Baylor University, becoming the first in her family

to graduate from college; and

WHEREAS, On November 3, 1967, she exchanged wedding vows

with Jim Crain, and the pair went on to share a rewarding marriage

that spanned 57 years; they were blessed with two daughters,

Cherisse and Celeste, and through the years, their treasured

family grew to include five grandchildren; and

WHEREAS, Mrs. Crain began her career as a ninth-grade

English teacher with the Dallas Independent School District; in

1972, she joined her husband's accounting firm, where she was

employed for two and a half decades; she then returned to school,

and after receiving her master's degree from Dallas Baptist

University in 2005, she and Mr. Crain worked together to provide

biblical marriage counseling to couples around the world; and

WHEREAS, Active members of the International Mission Board

and e3 Partners Ministry, Mr. and Mrs. Crain took part in

numerous missions on five continents over the course of the past

quarter century; they also served as volunteer chaplains during

the 85th Legislature, where they offered prayers, encouragement,

and counseling to Capitol staffers and legislators; and

WHEREAS, Cheryl Crain lived a rich and purposeful life

centered around her family and her faith, and she will long be

remembered with deep affection by all who knew her; now,

therefore, be it

RESOLVED, That the Senate of the State of Texas, 89th

Legislature, hereby pay tribute to the memory of Cheryl Elise

Crain and extend heartfelt sympathy to the members of her family:

to her husband, Jim Crain; to her daughters, Cherisse Smyser and

her husband, Craig, and Celeste Sodergren and her husband, Brad;

to her grandchildren, Lauryn Simons and her wife, Jessica, Jenna

Simons, Madeline Mather and her husband, Jake, Phoebe Smyser, and

Ben Smyser; to her brother, Gary Reeves, and his wife, Jo; to her

nieces, DeLynn Crawford and her husband, Ted, LuBeth Anderson and

her husband, Craig, Whitney Meadows and her husband, Kirk, and

Kimberley Wassenich and her husband, Eli; to her nephew, Robert

Speck, and his wife, Melinda; and to her other relatives and

friends; and, be it further

RESOLVED, That an official copy of this Resolution be

prepared for her family and that when the Texas Senate adjourns

this day, it do so in memory of Cheryl Crain.
