SENATE RESOLUTION NO. 449

WHEREAS, The Senate of the State of Texas is pleased to

recognize the Texas Association of Counties and to join in

celebrating April 29, 2025, as County Government Day at the State

Capitol; and

WHEREAS, The month of April in 2025 is being observed by

the National Association of Counties as National County

Government Month and offers the nation's citizens the

opportunity to recognize and pay tribute to the many

contributions made by county governments; and

WHEREAS, County government is the oldest form of local

government in the United States and addresses many critical

issues, including public safety and justice, emergency response

services, election security, maintenance and safety of records,

indigent health care, and mental health services; and

WHEREAS, There are 254 counties in Texas, and the dedicated

individuals who serve our counties as elected or appointed

officials not only work diligently to meet the needs of citizens

but also commit themselves to finding solutions to problems to

benefit all Texans; and

WHEREAS, For more than 50 years, the Texas Association of

Counties has provided services to the 254 counties of Texas and

assistance to the more than 4,600 county officials of this state;

now, therefore, be it

RESOLVED, That the Senate of the State of Texas, 89th

Legislature, hereby commend the county officials of this state

for their countless contributions to Texas and welcome members of

the Texas Association of Counties to Austin as they celebrate

County Government Day at the Capitol; and, be it further

RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution be prepared for

the Texas Association of Counties as an expression of esteem from

the Texas Senate.
