SENATE RESOLUTION NO. 485

WHEREAS, Raiz Federal Credit Union and Jamie Strayer,

creator and executive producer of the television series

Opportunity Knocks
, have rendered exceptional service to the El

Paso community; and

WHEREAS, A PBS series based in El Paso,
Opportunity Knocks

is part of the Opportunity Initiative, which promotes financial

health by connecting individuals and families with community

development financial institutions, minority depository

institutions, credit unions, and other nonprofits; the reality

series pairs six families with financial experts who offer them

guidance and connect them with community resources; widely

acclaimed for its focus on inspirational stories, the series was

named the Best Feel Good Show of the Year at the 11th Annual

American Reality Television Awards; its other honors include the

Silver Anthem Award, Telly Award, and Gold dotCOMM Award; and

WHEREAS, Raiz Federal Credit Union is a certified

community development financial institution; each year, it

partners with
Opportunity Knocks
to provide participants with

customized solutions such as debt consolidation and mortgage

loans; and

WHEREAS,
Opportunity Knocks
benefits from the able

leadership of its creator and executive producer, Jamie Strayer;

in addition to establishing the Opportunity Initiative, she

founded a firm that secured $1 billion in funding for community

development financial institutions, and she owns the

Emmy-winning series
Biz Kid$
; and

WHEREAS, Raiz Federal Credit Union and Jamie Strayer have

empowered countless individuals to achieve their financial

goals, and they are indeed deserving of special recognition for

their contributions; now, therefore, be it

RESOLVED, That the Senate of the State of Texas, 89th

Legislature, hereby commend Raiz Federal Credit Union and Jamie

Strayer for their service to El Paso families and extend to them

sincere best wishes for the future; and, be it further

RESOLVED, That official copies of this Resolution be

prepared for Raiz Federal Credit Union and Jamie Strayer as an

expression of high regard from the Texas Senate.
