SENATE RESOLUTION NO. 486

WHEREAS, The Senate of the State of Texas is proud to

recognize the Laredo Police Department on the grand occasion of

its 175th anniversary, a historic milestone that highlights the

department's enduring commitment to the City of Laredo and its

residents; and

WHEREAS, The Laredo Police Department is one of the oldest

law enforcement agencies in the United States and is the eighth

largest police department in Texas; the department has grown from

a small cadre of peace officers to a professional agency

comprising more than 700 employees, from sworn officers to

civilian personnel, who are dedicated to community-oriented

policing to protect and serve all Laredoans; and

WHEREAS, The department is recognized for its proactive

initiatives to maintain strong, positive relationships with

community members and for its numerous specialized units,

including the traffic, canine, bike patrol, and park police

units, all of which play critical roles in ensuring the safety

and security of Laredo; and

WHEREAS, To honor the anniversary, the Laredo Police

Department unveiled a commemorative badge and uniform patch

designed to replicate the handcrafted badge worn by Laredo Police

Chief Mike Brennan in 1927; the department has also collected

other historical badges and biographies of past and fallen

officers to display as powerful symbols of the valor, sacrifice,

and dedication to duty that uphold the enduring legacy of the

Laredo Police; and

WHEREAS, The 175th anniversary of the Laredo Police

Department provides an opportunity to reflect on the distinguished

service that officers, leaders, and department employees have

devoted to the people of Laredo over many generations and to

recognize the continued contributions of today's officers and staff

who play an essential role in preserving the safety and prosperity

of Laredo; now, therefore, be it

RESOLVED, That the Senate of the State of Texas, 89th

Legislature, hereby commend the Laredo Police Department on 175

years of outstanding service and extend to its leadership,

officers, and staff sincere best wishes for continued success in

the future; and, be it further

RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution be prepared for

the department as an expression of esteem from the Texas Senate.
