SENATE RESOLUTION NO. 518
WHEREAS, The Senate of the State of Texas is pleased to join
the American Warrior Association in recognizing May 14, 2025, as
Texas Moral Injury Awareness Day; and
WHEREAS, Moral injury is defined as emotional damage
inflicted on the conscience or moral compass of an individual who
perpetrated, witnessed, or failed to prevent acts that transgress
one's moral beliefs, values, or ethical codes of conduct; and
WHEREAS, Based in Fort Worth, the American Warrior
Association has made a bold and historic effort to address moral
injury and overall wellness through the launch of a public-private
partnership called "R3: Respond. Restore. Resolve."; and
WHEREAS, By integrating emotional, physical, and spiritual
support, the R3 program provides a comprehensive and holistic
approach to healing for those who selflessly serve in the line of
duty, including military members, veterans, and first responders;
and
WHEREAS, The American Warrior Association offers a wide array
of support services with the goal to honor and improve the
well-being of our nation's heroes, which also aligns with R3's
mission to heal, support, and foster resilience in those affected by
moral injury; and
WHEREAS, The R3 program provides access to critical tools and
resources through training, culturally competent counseling, and
access to non-clinical preventative care designed to reduce stigma
and strengthen service members' ability to de-escalate situations
and process trauma; this vital initiative allows the American
Warrior Association to promote a healthier first responder and
veteran workforce in our state, which leads to improved wellness,
lower absenteeism, and stronger community ties; and
WHEREAS, Designed for scalability, the R3 program is the
first of its kind, and the association plans to expand its
innovative model throughout the state and ultimately across the
nation; this exemplary program serves as a model to support those
who uphold the safety and security of our communities, and it is
indeed fitting that a day be set aside to raise awareness about
this important issue; now, therefore, be it
RESOLVED, That the Senate of the State of Texas, 89th
Legislature, hereby recognize May 14, 2025, as Texas Moral Injury
Awareness Day and commend all who contribute to the mission of the
American Warrior Association for their outstanding efforts to serve
our nation's first responders, veterans, and military service
members; and, be it further
RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution be prepared for the
association as an expression of esteem from the Texas Senate.
