SENATE RESOLUTION NO. 534

In Memory

of

John Alexander Ivey

WHEREAS, The Senate of the State of Texas honors and

commemorates the life of John Alexander Ivey, who died

April 14, 2025, at the age of 23; and

WHEREAS, Born in Plano on February 15, 2002, Alex Ivey was

the beloved son of John and Kristina Ivey; as a young child, he

navigated profound hearing loss with determination, and he

received a cochlear implant when he was five; and

WHEREAS, Alex excelled in art, music, and academics as a

student in the Boerne Independent School District and earned

many top honors and medals for speech and debate and numerous

University Interscholastic League accolades; he graduated

summa cum laude in 2020 and was awarded a generous college

scholarship; and

WHEREAS, This exceptional Texas citizen modeled

leadership, resolve, and generosity as a member of the Boy Scouts

of America, and he achieved the distinguished rank of Eagle

Scout; through his involvement and his numerous acts of service,

both locally and abroad, he developed a passion for traveling,

camping, hiking, and philanthropy, and he was proud to have

completed the 175-mile trek to Philmont Scout Ranch with the

traditional summiting of Mount Baldy; and

WHEREAS, Alex attended The University of Texas at Austin

and served as president of the Delta Sigma Phi social fraternity;

an exemplary student, he was inducted into the Phi Beta Kappa

honors society and graduated as a Distinguished College Scholar

with a bachelor's degree in international relations and

government; he enrolled as a student at The University of Texas

School of Law, where he was active in the legal community and

highly esteemed by his peers and professors; and

WHEREAS, Alex was an enthusiastic outdoorsman who found

great joy in his extensive travels; he was a compassionate,

humorous, and humble young man who met extraordinary challenges

with courage and grace, and he will long be remembered with

admiration and appreciation by the many friends and loved ones

who were privileged to know him and to share in his life; now,

therefore, be it

RESOLVED, That the Senate of the State of Texas, 89th

Legislature, hereby extend sincere condolences to the bereaved

family of John Alexander Ivey; and, be it further

RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution be prepared for

his family as an expression of deepest sympathy from the Texas

Senate and that when the Senate adjourns this day, it do so in

memory of Alex Ivey.
