R E S O L U T I O N

WHEREAS, Pastor Tommy Nelson of Denton is retiring as senior

pastor of Denton Bible Church at the end of May 2025, following

nearly a half century of service to the congregation; and

WHEREAS, A Denton native, Pastor Nelson is a graduate of the

University of North Texas, where he played quarterback for the Mean

Green football team; he began his spiritual journey during his time

as a student-athlete, and he went on to study at Dallas Theological

Seminary; and

WHEREAS, Pastor Nelson became senior pastor of Denton Bible

Church in 1977; under his leadership, the congregation grew

significantly, and members have been deeply involved in missions,

discipleship, and community service; and

WHEREAS, While leading the church, Pastor Nelson gained

national recognition as an educator, speaker, and author; his

bestselling works include
The Book of Romance
; and

WHEREAS, Throughout his long tenure, Pastor Nelson has

devoted himself to his church and to the wider faith community, and

in so doing, he has earned the appreciation of innumerable people;

now, therefore, be it

RESOLVED, That the Senate of the 89th Texas Legislature

hereby honor Pastor Tommy Nelson on the occasion of his retirement

as senior pastor of Denton Bible Church and extend to him sincere

best wishes for the future; and, be it further

RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be

prepared for Pastor Nelson as an expression of high regard by the

Texas Senate.
