SENATE RESOLUTION NO. 595

In Memory

of

Willard Hill

WHEREAS, Family and friends are mourning the loss of

Willard Alvin Hill of Mineola, who passed away on April 14, 2025,

at the age of 85; and

WHEREAS, The son of Mary Lucille Clark Hill and William

Lyle Hill, Will Hill was born in Smithville, Ohio, on February

14, 1940, and he grew up with four siblings, Arlene, Judy, Lyle,

and Vicki; from 1962 to 1964, he proudly served his country as a

private first class in the United States Army; he was stationed

in Germany and earned recognition as a sharpshooter; and

WHEREAS, Mr. Hill was a loyal employee of Morton Salt from

1972 until his retirement in 2005, and he was admired by his

colleagues for his integrity and strong work ethic; and

WHEREAS, Devoted to his family, Mr. Hill shared a

fulfilling 59-year marriage with his wife, the former Claire

Elaine Snell; the couple raised three treasured children,

Brenda, Brian, and Sheila, and through the years, they were

further blessed with six grandchildren and three

great-grandchildren; and

WHEREAS, Mr. Hill was a valued member of his Baptist

church, and he expressed his unwavering faith through countless

kind acts; in his leisure hours, he enjoyed fishing, camping,

tending to his garden, and relaxing with his dogs; most of all, he

delighted in spending time with his family and friends; and

WHEREAS, Will Hill lived a full and generous life that was

rich in the intangibles that matter most, and although he is

deeply missed, he will remain a source of inspiration to all who

were privileged to know him; now, therefore, be it

RESOLVED, That the Senate of the State of Texas, 89th

Legislature, hereby pay tribute to the memory of Willard Alvin

Hill and extend sincere sympathy to the members of his family: to

his wife, Claire Elaine Hill; to his children, Brenda Letvak and

her partner, Kevin Devore, Brian Hill, and Sheila Smith and her

husband, Thomas; to his grandchildren, Bethany Hill, Justin

Owens, Dakota Owens, Shelby Smith, Kendra Smith, and Gracie

Owens; to his great-grandchildren, Landon Hatfield, Kayson

Smith, and Adaleigh Gauldin; to his sister, Vicki Hill; and to

his many other relatives and friends; and, be it further

RESOLVED, That an official copy of this Resolution be

prepared for his family and that when the Texas Senate adjourns

this day, it do so in memory of Will Hill.
