SENATE RESOLUTION NO. 623

WHEREAS, Kelly Murphy is graduating from Stephen F. Austin

High School in June 2025, and this standout water polo player

will be continuing his athletic career as a scholarship student

at Wagner College in New York; and

WHEREAS, Mr. Murphy has been active in Longhorn Aquatics

Water Polo since 2018, and he has distinguished himself as a

member of the varsity water polo team at Austin High since 2022;

he served as co-captain of the Maroons in 2023 and 2024, and among

his many achievements, he was named to the All-District First

Team for three consecutive years and was recognized as the 2023

Offensive Player of the Year and the 2024 Most Valuable Player of

the Year; in addition, he helped the Maroons win the Texas

Interscholastic Swimming Coaches Association West Region

championship in 2022, and he was selected to the USA Water Polo

Olympic Development Program Southwest Zone National Championship

Team in 2023 and 2025; and

WHEREAS, During his years at Austin High, Mr. Murphy has

also competed on the swim team, and he has held membership in the

Academy for Global Studies and the National Honor Society; he has

successfully balanced his athletic pursuits with a challenging

academic courseload that has included several AP and dual credit

courses; and

WHEREAS, Kelly Murphy has pursued his goals with

remarkable drive and an enduring commitment to excellence, and he

may take great pride in all that he has accomplished as he looks

ahead to a future bright with promise; now, therefore, be it

RESOLVED, That the Senate of the State of Texas, 89th

Legislature, hereby congratulate Kelly Murphy on his graduation

from Stephen F. Austin High School and on his receipt of an

athletic scholarship to Wagner College and extend to him sincere

best wishes for continued success; and, be it further

RESOLVED, That an official copy of this Resolution be

prepared for Mr. Murphy as an expression of high regard from the

Texas Senate.
