SENATE RESOLUTION NO. 627

In Memory

of

Joe Wall

WHEREAS, The life of an esteemed Christian leader drew to a

close with the passing of Dr. Joe Layton Wall of Georgetown on

August 10, 2024, at the age of 85; and

WHEREAS, Joe Wall was born in Dallas on January 11, 1939,

to Charles and Frances Wall; he entered the ministry at the age of

17, and he worked at Baptist churches in Houston, Waco, and

Travis; following his graduation from Baylor University, he

earned a master of theology degree from Dallas Theological

Seminary; and

WHEREAS, In the 1970s, Dr. Wall dedicated his efforts to

planting new churches in the Houston area, and he served as

senior pastor of what today is BridgePoint Bible Church; he was

also dean of academic affairs for Dallas Bible College, and he

cofounded the Houston Bible Institute; he completed a two-year

tenure as president of Western Bible College in 1985, and that

same year, he oversaw the formation of Colorado Christian

University, where he became the school's first president; in

addition, he helped establish the Foothills Institute of

Biblical Studies in Colorado; in Texas, he served as an adjunct

faculty member of Dallas Theological Seminary, where he received

a doctor of theology degree, and as a professor at Grace School of

Theology; moreover, he traveled the world to teach pastors and

other church leaders; and

WHEREAS, In all his endeavors, Dr. Wall enjoyed the love and

support of his wife, Linda, with whom he shared a rewarding

marriage of nearly six decades before her death; he was the devoted

father of two children, Scot and Christopher, and he took great

pride in his five grandchildren and his great-grandchild; and

WHEREAS, Setting an inspiring example of faith in action,

Dr. Joe Wall enriched the lives of countless people through his

spiritual leadership, and he leaves behind a legacy that will long

be treasured by all those who held him dear; now, therefore, be it

RESOLVED, That the Senate of the State of Texas, 89th

Legislature, hereby pay tribute to the memory of Dr. Joe Layton

Wall and extend deepest sympathy to the members of his family: to

his brother, Richard Wall and his wife, Betty; to his sons, Scot

Wall and his wife, Darcy, and Christopher Layton Wall and his wife,

Jessica; to his grandchildren, Angel Miller, Marissa Wall McCrea,

and Caleb, Tyler, and Tommy Wall; to his great-grandson, William

Wall; and to his other relatives and friends; and, be it further

RESOLVED, That an official copy of this Resolution be

prepared for his family and that when the Texas Senate adjourns

this day, it do so in memory of Dr. Joe Wall.
