SENATE RESOLUTION NO. 638

In Memory

of

Malcolm Wright

WHEREAS, A life made rich through meaningful service drew

to a close with the passing of Malcolm Marvin Wright on May 16,

2025, at the age of 91; and

WHEREAS, The son of William and Lillie Wright, Malcolm

Wright was born in Jonesville, Louisiana, on February 15, 1934;

he joined the United States Navy in 1954 and served as a "frogman"

tasked with underwater reconnaissance and demolition; following

two decades with the military, he retired as a DMC chief

draftsman Navy SEAL; and

WHEREAS, Mr. Wright earned his bachelor's degree from

Tennessee Baptist Temple University, and after completing a

master's degree in education at Stephen F. Austin State

University, he settled in East Texas; he served as a teacher and

coach for the Union Grove and White Oak Independent School

Districts before retiring from his second career; and

WHEREAS, Over the years, Mr. Wright became the beloved

patriarch of a fine family that spanned four generations; he was

preceded in death by his wife of 69 years, Margaret Wright, and by

both of his children, Michael Wright and Ginger Tolbert; and

WHEREAS, Although Malcolm Wright will be deeply missed, he

has left his family and friends with a wealth of memories that

they will forever treasure; now, therefore, be it

RESOLVED, That the Senate of the State of Texas, 89th

Legislature, hereby pay tribute to the life of Malcolm Marvin

Wright and extend sincere condolences to the members of his

family: to his granddaughter, Holly Gilliam; to his

great-granddaughter, Alexandrea Gilliam; and to his other

relatives and friends; and, be it further

RESOLVED, That an official copy of this Resolution be

prepared for his family and that when the Texas Senate adjourns

this day, it do so in memory of Malcolm Wright.
