SENATE RESOLUTION NO. 645

WHEREAS, Merced Housing Texas is celebrating its 30th

anniversary in 2025; and

WHEREAS, Established in 1995, Merced Housing Texas was

created from a collaboration between civic leader Maria

Berriozábal and nine congregations of Catholic women who were

inspired by a collective mission to address housing justice in

San Antonio; the organization serves low-income families by

advocating for affordable communities, offering home repairs,

and connecting residents with other financial, educational, and

wellness services; and

WHEREAS, Over the years, Merced has expanded its reach by

acquiring and developing 14 multifamily buildings and apartments

across seven Texas cities to create affordable housing; in

addition, the group has furthered its impact by distributing

thousands of units of food to residents; and

WHEREAS, Demonstrating a steadfast commitment to fostering

healthy communities by providing quality, affordable housing

paired with supportive services, Merced Housing Texas plays an

important role in improving the well-being of many citizens of

the Lone Star State; now, therefore, be it

RESOLVED, That the Senate of the State of Texas, 89th Texas

Legislature, hereby commemorate the 30th anniversary of Merced

Housing Texas and extend to all those affiliated with the

organization sincere best wishes for continued success with

their important work; and, be it further

RESOLVED, That an official copy of this Resolution be

prepared for Merced Housing Texas as an expression of high regard

from the Texas Senate.
