SENATE RESOLUTION NO. 653

In Memory

of

Gene Welch

WHEREAS, A rich and purposeful life drew to a close on

April 11, 2025, with the passing of Gene Welch of Wake Village at

the age of 90; and

WHEREAS, Gene Welch was born to Clyde and Dorothy Welch on

October 19, 1934, in Rolla, Missouri, and grew up sharing in the

companionship of his two sisters, Patricia and Sharon; at the age

of 14, he embarked on a successful career as a truck driver, and

he continued to work in the industry until his passing; and

WHEREAS, Answering his nation's call to duty, Mr. Welch

served in the U.S. Air Force during the Korean War; after

returning to civilian life, he maintained his connection with the

military as president of the Korean War Veterans Association and

as a member of the VFW and the American Legion; and

WHEREAS, Valuing family above all else, Mr. Welch shared a

rewarding marriage with his wife, Martha, that spanned 67 years,

and he took great pride in their children, Mitch, Don, and

Kimberly; through the years, he had the pleasure of seeing his

family grow to include numerous grandchildren and

great-grandchildren; in his leisure hours, he enjoyed watching

the Dallas Cowboys and Texas Rangers and taking part in outdoor

activities such as hunting, fishing, and camping; and

WHEREAS, Deeply dedicated to his family, his faith, and his

country, Gene Welch earned the lasting respect and admiration of

all who were privileged to know him; now, therefore, be it

RESOLVED, That the Senate of the State of Texas, 89th

Legislature, hereby pay tribute to the life of Gene Welch and

extend sincere condolences to his relatives and friends; and, be

it further

RESOLVED, That an official copy of this Resolution be

prepared for his family and that when the Texas Senate adjourns

this day, it do so in memory of Gene Welch.
