SENATE RESOLUTION NO. 679

In Memory

of

Jimmy Byrum

WHEREAS, A life made rich through meaningful service drew

to a close with the passing of Jimmy Doyle Byrum of Tyler on

April 8, 2025, at the age of 76; and

WHEREAS, The son of James and Zoe Dean Byrum, Jimmy Byrum

was born in Tyler on December 3, 1948, and he grew up with the

companionship of two siblings, James and Rose; answering his

nation's call to duty, he served in the U.S. Army during the

Vietnam War, and he received a Purple Heart; after returning

home, he worked for the local railroad, and he was a rural mail

carrier for the U.S. Postal Service; and

WHEREAS, Mr. Byrum and his first wife, Lisa, became the

proud parents of four sons, J. D., Jack, John, and Joseph; after

that marriage ended, he was fortunate enough to find love again

with his second wife, Linda, and they shared a fulfilling union

that spanned more than two decades; with the passing years, he

saw his treasured family grow to include a grandson, Emory; and

WHEREAS, A man of many interests, Mr. Byrum enjoyed

collecting antiques, particularly clocks and cap guns, and he had

a passion for creating art and playing guitar; he was also an avid

fan of the Dallas Cowboys; and

WHEREAS, Deeply dedicated to his family and his country,

Jimmy Byrum earned the lasting respect and admiration of all who

were privileged to know him; now, therefore, be it

RESOLVED, That the Senate of the State of Texas, 89th

Legislature, hereby pay tribute to the memory of Jimmy Doyle

Byrum and extend heartfelt sympathy to the members of his family:

to his wife, Linda; to his sons, J. D., Jack and his wife, Erin,

John and his wife, Hannah, and Joseph and his wife, Alexandra; to

his grandson, Emory; to his sister, Rose Marie; and to his many

other relatives and friends; and, be it further

RESOLVED, That an official copy of this Resolution be

prepared for his family and that when the Texas Senate adjourns

this day, it do so in memory of Jimmy Byrum.
