SENATE RESOLUTION NO. 694

WHEREAS, The Senate of the State of Texas is pleased to

recognize Dennis E. Nixon on his 50 years of exemplary service

and transformative leadership at IBC Bank in Laredo; and

WHEREAS, Dennis Nixon is widely recognized as one of the

nation's leading authorities in banking; he serves as chief

executive officer of IBC Bank in Laredo and as chairman of

International Bancshares Corporation, the largest commercial

bank holding company in Texas; since joining the financial

institution in 1975, he has been an invaluable asset to the

company, and his vision and leadership have been instrumental

in achieving IBC's unprecedented growth and national

recognition; and

WHEREAS, Mr. Nixon's prudent fiscal oversight has led IBC

to become one of the largest independent banks in Texas and

Oklahoma and among the top Hispanic-owned banks in the United

States; his guidance and expertise were pivotal in the bank's

network expansion, which allowed it to reach a broader

customer base and to acquire assets of more than $16 billion;

due to his diligent stewardship, the institution has grown to

include 166 locations that serve 75 communities across Texas

and Oklahoma; and

WHEREAS, An internationally recognized banking executive,

Mr. Nixon has received numerous accolades for his work promoting

strong relations between the United States and Mexico; he played

key roles in the negotiation and implementation of both the North

American Free Trade Agreement and the United States-Mexico

Canada Agreement, which provided great economic benefit to

Americans and to the people of Texas; and

WHEREAS, In addition to being one of the nation's

longest-serving chief executive officers of a publicly traded

company, Dennis is a member of the Texas Business Leadership

Council, and in 2007, he was elected to serve on the board of the

United States Chamber of Commerce; he is a tireless community

servant, and he gives generously of his time and resources to

support civic and charitable organizations that are committed to

improving the health and quality of life of Laredoans and all

Texans; and

WHEREAS, Throughout his tenure at IBC, Dennis has fostered

a company culture that values community engagement, and he has

remained dedicated to a community banking philosophy that has

earned the institution the trust of its clients, including

multiple generations of families who are served by IBC Bank; he

is a distinguished businessman and a valued member of the Laredo

community, and he is indeed worthy of recognition for five

decades of outstanding leadership at IBC Bank in Laredo; now,

therefore, be it

RESOLVED, That the Senate of the State of Texas, 89th

Legislature, hereby congratulate Dennis Nixon on 50 years of

service at IBC Bank and extend to him best wishes for the future;

and, be it further

RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution be prepared for

him as an expression of esteem from the Texas Senate.
