LONG TITLE
General Description:
This resolution approves the proposed Corridor Management Plan for an existing scenic
byway.
Highlighted Provisions:

approves the updated Corridor Management Plan for the existing Zion Scenic Byway.

Be it resolved by the Legislature of the state of Utah, the Governor concurring therein:
WHEREAS, in accordance with Utah Code Section
72-4-301.5
, "a highway or state scenic
byway may not be nominated for designation as a National Scenic Byway or All-American
Road unless the Corridor Management Plan that will be submitted with the application for the
highway or state scenic byway to be nominated for designation as a National Scenic Byway or
All-American Road is approved by the Legislature by concurrent resolution";
WHEREAS, the Zion Scenic Byway was approved by the Utah Legislature as a State
Scenic Byway in 1990 for the entirety of State Route 9 from I-15 in Hurricane to US-89 in Mt.
Carmel Junction;
WHEREAS, a National Scenic Byway is a road recognized by the United States
Department of Transportation to preserve and protect the scenic, historic, recreational, cultural,
archaeological, and natural qualities of a road;
WHEREAS, the proposed Corridor Management Plan has been prepared in coordination
with the Zion Regional Collaborative and a byway planning team including representatives of
Washington County, Kane County, and all municipalities along the byway corridor, as well as
other agencies and interested parties; and
WHEREAS, the proposed plan has been approved by Washington County, Kane County,
the cities of La Verkin and Hurricane, and the towns of Rockville, Springdale, and Virgin:
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED
that the Legislature of the state of Utah, the
Governor concurring therein, approves the updated Corridor Management Plan for the Zion
Scenic Byway, which covers State Route 9 from I-15 in Hurricane to US-89 in Mt. Carmel
Junction.
BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that a copy of this resolution be sent to the Utah
Department of Transportation, the Utah State Scenic Byway Committee, and the Governor's
Office of Economic Opportunity.
