What This Bill Does
- Allows VRS members who retire and then come back to work full time at the Department of Corrections as a correctional officer or an instructional employee required to be licensed by the Board of Education to continue receiving their VRS pension under certain conditions.
- Requires a six-month break between retirement and returning to full-time employment for eligibility.
- Specifies that those returning as correctional officers must complete minimum training standards established by the Department of Criminal Justice Services within 12 months of being hired.
- Ensures that continuing to receive a VRS pension does not affect other retirement benefits or disqualify them from cash match plan benefits.

- Changes the definition of 'program' to refer to any employer instead of just the Department of Corrections.
- Adds language that certain provisions shall not apply, specifically by inserting 'not' after 'shall'.
- Specifies an effective date for the new rules on July 1, 2027.
- The amendment text does not fully explain all changes in plain English due to its technical nature and focus on specific legal language.
