WHEREAS, John Michel de Triquet, M.D., an honorable veteran, distinguished pediatrician, esteemed public servant, and beloved member of the Chesapeake community, died on August 22, 2025; and
WHEREAS, after graduating from St. Benedict Preparatory School in Newark, New Jersey, John de Triquet earned a bachelor's degree from Saint Vincent College and a medical degree from the Temple University School of Medicine; and
WHEREAS, John de Triquet served his country with honor and distinction for more than 11 years, fulfilling his medical residency requirements at the United States Naval Hospital in Philadelphia and the Naval Regional Medical Center in Portsmouth; and
WHEREAS, for 40 years, John de Triquet served as a pediatrician at Children's Hospital of The King's Daughters and then at Pediatric Specialists, demonstrating extraordinary compassion and integrity as he worked tirelessly to deliver better health outcomes for his patients; and
WHEREAS, as the first medical director of the Child Advocacy Center of Hampton Roads and a forensic pediatrician, John de Triquet provided invaluable expertise in many child abuse cases, both locally and nationally; and
WHEREAS, John de Triquet was first elected to the Chesapeake City Council in 1994 and went on to serve as a council member for more than 30 years, including approximately two decades as vice mayor; and
WHEREAS, John de Triquet was known for his exceptional wisdom, thoughtful deliberation, and equanimity during his tenure on the Chesapeake City Council and was integral to the city's growth and success over the past 30 years; and
WHEREAS, regarded by friends and family as a “Renaissance man,” John de Triquet enjoyed spending his free time studying history, playing piano, and painting and excelled at any interest he pursued; and
WHEREAS, in recognition of his service to his country and his community, John de Triquet received many honors in his lifetime, including the Navy Commendation Medal, the President's Award from the Virginia Chapter of the American Academy of Pediatrics, several Top Doc awards, and a Healthcare Hero award from
Inside Business
magazine; and
WHEREAS, John de Triquet will be fondly remembered and dearly missed by his loving wife of 54 years, Carole; his children, Christine and John, and their families; and numerous other family members and friends; now, therefore, be it
RESOLVED by the House of Delegates, the Senate concurring, That the General Assembly hereby note with great sadness the loss of John Michel de Triquet, M.D., a pillar of the Chesapeake community whose dedication to children, medicine, and public service inspired all who knew him; and, be it
RESOLVED FURTHER, That the Clerk of the House of Delegates prepare a copy of this resolution for presentation to the family of John Michel de Triquet, M.D., as an expression of the General Assembly's respect for his memory.
