WHEREAS, James Hartman III, a respected law-enforcement officer, esteemed public servant, and beloved member of the Warrenton community, died on February 8, 2026; and
WHEREAS, James “Jimmy” Hartman III began serving his community at the age of 15 as a member of the Warrenton Volunteer Fire Company and three years later embarked on his career in law enforcement as a dispatcher and officer with the Warrenton Police Department; and
WHEREAS, Jimmy Hartman dedicated himself to the safety and well-being of Warrenton County until 2004, when he joined the Fauquier County Sheriff's Office as a detective; and
WHEREAS, over his 17 years with the Fauquier County Sheriff's Office, Jimmy Hartman served primarily in the Criminal Investigations Division and earned a series of promotions, achieving the rank of lieutenant-assistant commander by the time of his retirement in 2020; and
WHEREAS, following in his father's footsteps, Jimmy Hartman proudly served as the Ward 4 representative on the Warrenton Town Council from 2021 through 2024, including a term as vice mayor, and he worked tirelessly to advocate for the well-being of Warrenton and its residents; and
WHEREAS, known for his kind, humble, and personable demeanor, Jimmy Hartman never knew a stranger as he endeared himself to everyone he encountered as a law-enforcement officer, public servant, and community leader; and
WHEREAS, Jimmy Hartman will be fondly remembered and dearly missed by his brother, Andrew, and his family and by numerous other family members and friends; now, therefore, be it
RESOLVED by the House of Delegates, the Senate concurring, That the General Assembly hereby note with great sadness the loss of James Hartman III, a treasured member of the Warrenton community whose quiet strength and servant leadership made a profound and lasting impact on countless lives; and, be it
RESOLVED FURTHER, That the Clerk of the House of Delegates prepare a copy of this resolution for presentation to the family of James Hartman III as an expression of the General Assembly's respect for his memory.
