WHEREAS, Melissa Purvis, a dedicated law-enforcement officer with the Fairfax County Police Department, has gone above and beyond to safeguard local residents and build a stronger sense of community in McLean; and
WHEREAS, Melissa Purvis holds a degree in psychology and worked extensively with young people with mental health issues before joining the Fairfax County Police Department in 2023; and
WHEREAS, Melissa Purvis was assigned to the McLean District Police Station, where she uses her background in psychology to promote community policing and forge strong relationships based on trust and mutual respect with members of the public; and
WHEREAS, Melissa Purvis has earned a reputation for her incomparable work ethic, detailed documentation, and thorough investigations, which have significantly aided crime analysis; and
WHEREAS, in 2024, Melissa Purvis was selected as the McLean District Police Station Officer of the Month for her exceptional courage and dedication to duty; and
WHEREAS, on May 5, 2024, Melissa Purvis was preparing to leave the scene of a domestic violence case, which had already extended beyond the end of her shift, when she received reports of a shooting on Lewinsville Road; and
WHEREAS, Melissa Purvis was among the first officers to arrive on the scene and remained to assist other officers long after the situation had been stabilized, reflecting her integrity and commitment to excellence; now, therefore, be it
RESOLVED by the House of Delegates, the Senate concurring, That the General Assembly hereby commend Melissa Purvis of the Fairfax County Police Department for her professional achievements in service to the residents of McLean; and, be it
RESOLVED FURTHER, That the Clerk of the House of Delegates prepare a copy of this resolution for presentation to Melissa Purvis as an expression of the General Assembly's admiration for her legacy of contributions to the McLean community.
