WHEREAS, Willie Wayne Tucker, a distinguished law-enforcement officer, recently retired from the Danville Sheriff's Office; and
WHEREAS, prior to his law-enforcement career, Willie Tucker served in the United States Marine Corps from 1976 to 1983 and attained the rank of corporal, or E-4; and
WHEREAS, Willie Tucker was hired in 1985 by Charlie Smith, the first sheriff of the City of Danville, and has since served under the city's three subsequent sheriffs, including Dudley Bowling, James Dooley, and Mike Mondul; and
WHEREAS, as a result of his leadership and professionalism, Willie Tucker was promoted to the rank of sergeant in 1988; to lieutenant in 2010, when he served in the jail and the court service unit; and to captain overseeing court services in 2021; and
WHEREAS, Willie Tucker has served on the jail emergency response tactical team, special response team, and honor guard units with the Danville Sheriff's Office; and
WHEREAS, Willie Tucker has received multiple commendations in recognition of his service, including a Life Saver Medal; he was also voted Danville Fraternal Order of Police's Officer of the Year by his peers in 2010 and named Corrections Officer of the Year in 1993; and
WHEREAS, Willie Tucker has been trained in several specialties, including autism response, managing trauma, basic gang awareness, human trafficking, sovereign citizens, drug trafficking, domestic extremism, hostage negotiations, and field training; and
WHEREAS, Willie Tucker achieved 41 years of dedicated service with the Danville Sheriff's Office and worked tirelessly to protect and serve the citizens of Danville until he reached the age when he was statutorily required to retire; and
WHEREAS, Danville's sheriff Mike Mondul, along with the men and women of the Danville Sheriff's Office and the citizens of Danville, are deeply appreciative of Willie Tucker's commitment to the community; now, therefore, be it
RESOLVED by the House of Delegates, the Senate concurring, That the General Assembly hereby commend Willie Wayne Tucker on the occasion of his retirement from the Danville Sheriff's Office; and, be it
RESOLVED FURTHER, That the Clerk of the House of Delegates prepare a copy of this resolution for presentation to Willie Wayne Tucker as an expression of the General Assembly's admiration for his contributions to public safety in Danville and the Commonwealth.
