WHEREAS, Angela Hairston, Ed.D., superintendent of Danville City Public Schools, was named the Region VI Superintendent of the Year by the Virginia Association of School Superintendents in 2026; and
WHEREAS, Angela Hairston has more than 30 years of experience in education and has been the superintendent of Danville City Public Schools (DCPS) since 2020; and
WHEREAS, under Angela Hairston's leadership, DCPS developed and implemented a comprehensive strategic plan to address achievement gaps, encouraging greater student engagement and bolstering the performance of the division's schools; and
WHEREAS, Angela Hairston has worked closely with faith-based organizations, nonprofits, and businesses to rally support for DCPS and advance the division's mission, leading to the construction of a new school and renovations at other schools; and
WHEREAS, in all of her endeavors, Angela Hairston strives to foster the academic, social, and emotional well-being of her students and to ensure her teachers and staff excel in their professions; and
WHEREAS, as a tireless champion of the students, faculty, and families she serves, Angela Hairston has contributed greatly to the success of DCPS and has helped to make Danville a wonderful place to live, work, and raise a family; now, therefore, be it
RESOLVED by the House of Delegates, the Senate concurring, That the General Assembly hereby commend Angela Hairston, Ed.D., for being named the 2026 Region VI Superintendent of the Year by the Virginia Association of School Superintendents; and, be it
RESOLVED FURTHER, That the Clerk of the House of Delegates prepare a copy of this resolution for presentation to Angela Hairston, Ed.D., as an expression of the General Assembly's admiration for her distinguished service on behalf of the students and families of Danville and the Commonwealth.
