WHEREAS, Steve Hopkins of Louisa County, a lifelong farmer and a leader in the agricultural sector across the Commonwealth, was selected as the Sunbelt Agricultural Exposition Virginia Farmer of the Year in 2025; and
WHEREAS, a graduate of Virginia Polytechnic Institute and State University, Steve Hopkins dedicated more than 30 years of service to the Virginia Cooperative Extension and helped countless farmers expand their operations, adopt cutting-edge practices, and enhance profitability, all while operating his own family farm; and
WHEREAS, working with his wife, Crysti, and their sons, Garrett and Blake, Steve Hopkins represents the seventh generation of his family to own and operate Riverview Farms Cattle, a 1,200-acre farm, which includes a 300-head commercial cow herd and a turkey operation producing 150,000 birds every year, alongside hay, silage, and row crops to support livestock; and
WHEREAS, Steve Hopkins also founded the Central Virginia Cattlemen Association in 1998 and has held leadership roles in the National Cattlemen's Beef Association, Virginia Cattlemen's Association, Louisa County Agricultural/Forestal Rural Preservation Committee, and other farming organizations; and
WHEREAS, Steve Hopkins and his family previously received the 2022 Clean Water Farm Award for the Thomas Jefferson Soil and Water Conservation District, reflecting their commitment to environmental conservation and sustainable practices; now, therefore, be it
RESOLVED by the House of Delegates, the Senate concurring, That the General Assembly hereby commend Steve Hopkins on winning the 2025 Sunbelt Agricultural Exposition Virginia Farmer of the Year award; and, be it
RESOLVED FURTHER, That the Clerk of the House of Delegates prepare a copy of this resolution for presentation to Steve Hopkins as an expression of the General Assembly's admiration for his professional achievements and contributions to agriculture in the Commonwealth.
