WHEREAS, the Skyline High School wrestling team of Warren County won the Virginia High School League Class 3 state championship on February 21, 2026, at the Salem Civic Center; and
WHEREAS, the Skyline High School Hawks earned 211.5 points to top the runner-up New Kent High School Trojans by 68 points, securing back-to-back state championship titles after accomplishing that feat for the first time in program history last year; and
WHEREAS, in addition to the team championship title, the Skyline Hawks saw four of their wrestlers, Dylan Luik, Paden Aleya, Jacob Buffum, and Josiah Sykes, declared individual state champions; and
WHEREAS, the Skyline Hawks also benefitted from strong outings by Parker Withers and Tytus Drake, who finished runner-up in their events, and Isaiah Grady and Vinny DiVello, who finished third and fourth, respectively; and
WHEREAS, the success of the Skyline Hawks is the result of the teamwork and determination of the student-athletes, the leadership and guidance of their coaches and teachers, and the unwavering support of their families and the entire Skyline High School community; now, therefore, be it
RESOLVED by the House of Delegates, the Senate concurring, That the General Assembly hereby commend the Skyline High School wrestling team for winning the 2026 Virginia High School League Class 3 state championship; and, be it
RESOLVED FURTHER, That the Clerk of the House of Delegates prepare a copy of this resolution for presentation to Kyle Symons, coach of the Skyline High School wrestling team, as an expression of the General Assembly's admiration for the team's achievement and best wishes for the program's continued success.
