WHEREAS, Bennie Evans, Jr., an esteemed law-enforcement officer, retired from the Alexandria Police Department in 2026 after 28 years with the force and a total of 32 years in local law enforcement; and
WHEREAS, a native of Shreveport, Louisiana, Bennie Evans served his country with honor and distinction as a member of the United States Marine Corps for four years before embarking on his career in law enforcement; and
WHEREAS, Bennie Evans joined the Alexandria Sheriff's Office as a deputy in 1994 and four years later transitioned to the Alexandria Police Department, where he spent his first nine years on patrol; and
WHEREAS, Bennie Evans served as a longtime crisis intervention team instructor and as the Alexandria Police Department's homeless outreach liaison for a number of years; and
WHEREAS, Bennie Evans' honors in recognition of his exemplary service include Alexandria Crisis Intervention Team Officer of the Year, Field Operations Bureau Police Officer of the Year, the U.S. Attorney General's Award for Distinguished Service in Policing, Virginia Crisis Intervention Team Instructor of the Year, and Alexandria Sunrise Optimist Club Police Officer of the Year; and
WHEREAS, with an unwavering commitment to the safety and well-being of the community he served, Bennie Evans embodied the ideals of the law-enforcement profession, earning the respect and esteem of all Virginians; now, therefore, be it
RESOLVED by the House of Delegates, the Senate concurring, That the General Assembly hereby commend Bennie Evans, Jr., on the occasion of his retirement from the Alexandria Police Department; and, be it
RESOLVED FURTHER, That the Clerk of the House of Delegates prepare a copy of this resolution for presentation to Bennie Evans, Jr., as an expression of the General Assembly's admiration for his distinguished service and best wishes in his future endeavors.
