WHEREAS, the Rappahannock High School football team of Richmond County won the Virginia High School League Class 1 state championship on December 13, 2025, at Salem Stadium in Salem; and
WHEREAS, the Rappahannock High School Raiders defeated the Rye Cove High School Eagles of Scott County by a score of 49–14 to secure the program's first state championship title and finish the season with an impressive 13–2 record; and
WHEREAS, after trailing 14–6 at halftime, the Rappahannock Raiders found their momentum and posted six unanswered touchdowns in the second half; and
WHEREAS, the Rappahannock Raiders' win was a total team effort, led by standout performances from running back Kenneth Madison, who rushed for 225 yards and four touchdowns, and quarterback Clyde Kelly, Jr., who tallied 192 yards on the ground and 95 yards through the air, including a 96-yard run early in the third quarter that proved to be a pivotal turning point in the game; and
WHEREAS, the Rappahannock Raiders were aided in their victory by an ironclad defense that held the Rye Cove Eagles to only 135 rushing yards on 52 carries while giving up less than 20 total passing yards; and
WHEREAS, the Rappahannock Raiders' accomplishment is the result of the hard work and dedication of the student-athletes, the leadership and guidance of their coaches and teachers, and the unwavering support of their families and the entire Rappahannock High School community; now, therefore, be it
RESOLVED by the House of Delegates, the Senate concurring, That the General Assembly hereby commend the Rappahannock High School football team for winning the 2025 Virginia High School League Class 1 state championship; and, be it
RESOLVED FURTHER, That the Clerk of the House of Delegates prepare a copy of this resolution for presentation to William West, coach of the Rappahannock High School football team, as an expression of the General Assembly's admiration for the team's achievement and best wishes for its future success.
