WHEREAS, the Reverend Dr. Patricia Smith Wormley, the first lady and associate minister of Mount Zion Baptist Church in Spotsylvania County, has greatly served the Greater Fredericksburg community for many years; and
WHEREAS, Patricia Wormley graduated from the former Walker–Grant High School in Fredericksburg before earning an associate degree in business administration from Strayer University; and
WHEREAS, Patricia Wormley devoted 30 years of service to the former Virginia Bell Atlantic, working tirelessly to help the company succeed and to ensure its customers' satisfaction; and
WHEREAS, Patricia Wormley obtained a bachelor's degree in theology, master's degree in Christian education, and doctoral degree from what is today the Cornerstone College and Seminary, and she was ordained into the Gospel Ministry on September 24, 2016; and
WHEREAS, in addition to serving as first lady and associate minister at Mount Zion Baptist Church alongside her husband and senior pastor, the Reverend Dr. Charles Wormley, Patricia Wormley also guides the congregation as director of the Christian Education Ministry and spiritual advisor to the Adult Choir, the Youth Department, the Young at Heart Ministry, the Missionary Ministry, and the Women's Ministry; and
WHEREAS, Patricia Wormley made history as the first woman to serve as the second vice moderator of the Wayland Blue Ridge Baptist Association (WBRBA); she has also served as the president of the Women's Auxiliary of the WBRBA, the Wayland Blue Ridge Ministers' Wives and Ministers' Widows, Inc., the Virginia Association of Ministers' Wives and Ministers' Widows, Inc., and the Mattaponi Baptist Association of Virginia's Women's Missionary and Education Convention; and
WHEREAS, Patricia Wormley has served in a number of vital roles overseeing the finances and management of the Northeast Region of the International Association of Ministers' Wives and Ministers' Widows, Inc., and the International Association of Ministers' Wives and Ministers' Widows, Inc.; and
WHEREAS, as a testament to her exemplary faith leadership, Patricia Wormley was presented an honorary doctoral degree from Eastern Theological Seminary; and
WHEREAS, Patricia Wormley's indefatigable efforts have helped many individuals grow stronger in their faith, helping them to find success and greater purpose in their lives; now, therefore, be it
RESOLVED by the House of Delegates, That the Reverend Dr. Patricia Smith Wormley hereby be commended for her legacy of service; and, be it
RESOLVED FURTHER, That the Clerk of the House of Delegates prepare a copy of this resolution for presentation to the Reverend Dr. Patricia Smith Wormley as an expression of the House of Delegates' admiration for her contributions to the Commonwealth.
