Commending Surry County High School.

WHEREAS, for 50 years, Surry County High School has admirably served the educational and vocational needs of Surry County's young people, making a lasting imprint on the Surry County community; and
WHEREAS, Surry County High School opened in 1975, making an array of new vocational courses available to students, including occupational food preparation, child care services, industrial arts, auto mechanics, masonry, and building trades; and
WHEREAS, Surry County High School grew and developed over the years to meet its students' academic ambitions, establishing Advanced Placement courses through Virtual Virginia, as well as dual and concurrent enrollment courses through Brightpoint Community College; and
WHEREAS, in addition to offering a plethora of enriching electives, such as business, music, art, engineering, family and consumer science, and computer science and technology, Surry County High School has a Junior Reserve Officers' Training Corps and numerous other clubs and organizations to nurture every student's interest; and
WHEREAS, Surry County High School has established a number of athletic programs across various sports that have supported students' health and wellness while achieving success at the district, regional, and state level; and
WHEREAS, in recognition of the tireless efforts of its faculty and students, Surry County High School received an Exemplar Performance Award from the Virginia Department of Education for the 2024-2025 school year, a distinction achieved by only 92 other schools in the Commonwealth; and
WHEREAS, the accomplishments of Surry County High School are the result of the hard work and dedication of the school's administrators, faculty, and staff, who remain steadfastly devoted to their students' success and well-being; and
WHEREAS, the 2025 homecoming weekend, with the theme of “Golden Legacy: Celebrating 50 Years of Cougar Pride,” gave students and alumni of Surry County High School the opportunity to honor and reflect upon the school's remarkable impact on the Surry County community over the past half-century; now, therefore, be it
RESOLVED by the House of Delegates, That Surry County High School hereby be commended on the occasion of its 50th anniversary; and, be it
RESOLVED FURTHER, That the Clerk of the House of Delegates prepare a copy of this resolution for presentation to Surry County High School as an expression of the House of Delegates' admiration for the school's history and its contributions to Surry County and the Commonwealth.
