WHEREAS, the Princess Anne High School girls' basketball team of Virginia Beach won the Virginia High School League Class 5 state championship at Virginia Commonwealth University's Stuart C. Siegel Center in Richmond on March 13, 2025; and
WHEREAS, the Princess Anne High School Cavaliers defeated the William Fleming High School Colonels of Roanoke by a score of 70–28 to earn the program's 15th state championship title, a state record; and
WHEREAS, the Princess Anne Cavaliers held a 39–14 lead at halftime and never looked back, posting the largest margin of victory in a state championship game in the history of the program; and
WHEREAS, the Princess Anne Cavaliers' victory was a total team effort, led by Micah Ojo, who had 17 points, nine rebounds, and eight blocked shots; Jizelle James, who scored 20 points; Tristan Rickenbacker, who tallied 16 points and 15 rebounds; and Ellery Giddens, who added 13 points; and
WHEREAS, the Princess Anne Cavaliers have enjoyed an impressive reign of dominance under the leadership of coach Darnell Dozier, who has coached the team during all 15 of the program's title runs; and
WHEREAS, the accomplishments of the Princess Anne Cavaliers are the result of the hard work and dedication of the student-athletes, the leadership and guidance of their coaches and teachers, and the unwavering support of their families and the entire Princess Anne High School community; now, therefore, be it
RESOLVED by the House of Delegates, That the Princess Anne High School girls' basketball team hereby be commended for winning the 2025 Virginia High School League Class 5 state championship; and, be it
RESOLVED FURTHER, That the Clerk of the House of Delegates prepare a copy of this resolution for presentation to the Princess Anne High School girls' basketball team as an expression of the House of Delegates' admiration for the team's achievement and best wishes for the program's continued success.
