WHEREAS, John B. Gordon III, Ed.D., superintendent of Suffolk Public Schools, was named the 2027 Region 2 Superintendent of the Year by the Virginia Association of School Superintendents; and
WHEREAS, since 2019, John Gordon has served as the superintendent of Suffolk Public Schools, where he dedicates himself to cultivating learning environments that nurture his students' academic, social, and emotional well-being; and
WHEREAS, John Gordon has demonstrated a deep commitment to his staff and faculty's growth and development in his capacity as superintendent, ensuring they have the resources, training, and support they need to succeed; and
WHEREAS, John Gordon has advanced education policy and practice through his leadership roles with a number of regional and statewide education organizations; and
WHEREAS, as the Region 2 Superintendent of the Year, John Gordon will represent the school divisions of Accomack County, Chesapeake, Franklin, Hampton, Isle of Wight County, Newport News, Norfolk, Northampton County, Poquoson, Portsmouth, Southampton County, Suffolk, Virginia Beach, Williamsburg-James City County, and York County as he is considered for the Virginia Superintendent of the Year honor; and
WHEREAS, as an adjunct professor who has taught at Eastern Mennonite University, the University of Virginia, and Old Dominion University, John Gordon has mentored numerous educators and education administrators to help them realize their potential as leaders of their classrooms and schools; and
WHEREAS, with an unwavering commitment to the students and families he serves, John Gordon embodies the ideals of the education profession, earning the respect and esteem of all Virginians; now, therefore, be it
RESOLVED by the House of Delegates, That John B. Gordon III, Ed.D., hereby be commended for being named the 2027 Region 2 Superintendent of the Year by the Virginia Association of School Superintendents; and, be it
RESOLVED FURTHER, That the Clerk of the House of Delegates prepare a copy of this resolution for presentation to John B. Gordon III, Ed.D., as an expression of the House of Delegates' admiration for his contributions to education in Suffolk, Hampton Roads, and the Commonwealth.
