WHEREAS, John Spiak, athletic director of New Kent High School, was selected by the Virginia Interscholastic Athletic Administrators Association as the Class 3 and 4 Athletic Administrator of the Year in 2026; and
WHEREAS, John Spiak began his tenure at New Kent High School more than 14 years ago as a science teacher; he served as coach of the boys' and girls' indoor and outdoor track and field teams and cross country teams before taking on the role of athletic director; and
WHEREAS, early in his career, John Spiak was inspired by the respectful demeanor of an opposing coach and has since made it a priority to warmly greet opposing players and coaches to foster a positive environment for both teams; and
WHEREAS, over the course of John Spiak's career, New Kent High School has earned six state championship titles, and he has helped countless young people achieve success in both athletics and academics; and
WHEREAS, in addition to his tireless work ethic, organizational skills, and supportive nature, John Spiak's ability to motivate and inspire his student-athletes sets him apart as a truly exceptional candidate for this prestigious award; and
WHEREAS, John Spiak was recently elected by his fellow regional high school athletic directors as the Virginia High School League Region 3A Athletic Director of the Year for the 2024–2025 academic year; and
WHEREAS, John Spiak previously earned the Virginia High School League Region 3A Athletic Director of the Year award for the 2021–2022 academic year, further demonstrating his unparalleled dedication to servant leadership and commitment to excellence in high school athletics; and
WHEREAS, John Spiak was selected for the Class 3 and 4 Athletic Administrator of the Year award at the annual meeting of the Virginia Interscholastic Athletic Administrators Association's Past Presidents' Council and will be honored at the 2026 Virginia Interscholastic Athletic Administrators Association State Conference on April 23, 2026, in Virginia Beach; now, therefore, be it
RESOLVED by the House of Delegates, That John Spiak hereby be commended on his selection as the Virginia Interscholastic Athletic Administrators Association Class 3 and 4 Athletic Administrator of the Year; and, be it
RESOLVED FURTHER, That the Clerk of the House of Delegates prepare a copy of this resolution for presentation to John Spiak as an expression of the House of Delegates' admiration for his dedication to helping young people at New Kent High School achieve their fullest potential as student-athletes and leaders in the community.
