Commending the Princess Anne High School debate team.
Agreed to by the House of Delegates, March 2, 2026
WHEREAS, in 2025, the Princess Anne High School debate team demonstrated their skills in research, public speaking, and critical thinking by winning the Virginia High School League Class 5 team state championship title and several individual state titles; and
WHEREAS, after strong performances at regional and super-regional competitions, the members of the Princess Anne High School debate team advanced to the state championships, held at James Madison University on April 26, 2025; and
WHEREAS, Mia Spruill posted a 7–0 record in the Lincoln Douglas debate format, becoming the only undefeated state champion in the history of the event; and
WHEREAS, the duo of Ira Ronanki and Lili Couture won the policy debate format, with Couture also receiving the top policy speaker award; and
WHEREAS, the state championship victory was a testament to the skill and dedication of every team member, the leadership and guidance of coaches and staff, and the unwavering support of family members, friends, and the entire Princess Anne High School community; now, therefore, be it
RESOLVED by the House of Delegates, That the Princess Anne High School debate team hereby be commended on winning team and individual states titles at the 2025 Virginia High School League state championship; and, be it
RESOLVED FURTHER, That the Clerk of the House of Delegates prepare a copy of this resolution for presentation to the Princess Anne High School debate team as an expression of the House of Delegates' admiration for the team's achievements and best wishes for the future.
