WHEREAS, Maggie Tu, a graduate of the International Baccalaureate program at Princess Anne High School in Virginia Beach, received the prestigious Lyon Family Scholarship for the 2024–2025 academic year; and
WHEREAS, Maggie Tu graduated from Princess Anne High School with an outstanding grade point average of 4.63 and used her scholarship to begin attending Brown University; and
WHEREAS, the Lyon Family Scholarship places special emphasis on community service and volunteerism, and Maggie Tu contributed more than 700 hours of volunteer work to numerous organizations, including Eastern Virginia Medical School, the Virginia Department of Health Youth Advisory Council, Our Lady of Perpetual Help assisted living facility, and the Tidewater Chinese School, and through her service as a private tutor in advanced mathematics; and
WHEREAS, Maggie Tu aspires to pursue a career in medicine and has furthered this goal by shadowing a nurse practitioner, a physician's assistant, and a cancer researcher at Eastern Virginia Medical School; and
WHEREAS, through her dedication to academic excellence, commitment to service, and diligence in the study of medicine, Maggie Tu exemplifies the highest ideals of leadership and community engagement; now, therefore, be it
RESOLVED by the House of Delegates, That Maggie Tu hereby be commended for receiving the 2024–2025 Lyon Family Scholarship; and, be it
RESOLVED FURTHER, That the Clerk of the House of Delegates prepare a copy of this resolution for presentation to Maggie Tu as an expression of the House of Delegates' admiration for her achievements and best wishes in her future endeavors.
