WHEREAS, the Kempsville High School gymnastics team earned its first state title in program history with a victory in the Virginia High School League Class 5 state championship on February 20, 2026, marking a significant milestone for the school and its athletic community; and
WHEREAS, during the state championship, held at Kellam High School in Virginia Beach, the Kempsville High School gymnastics team delivered an exceptional performance, finishing with a team score of 149.725, narrowly defeating Kellam High School, which scored 149.200; and
WHEREAS, the vault performance was led by Catie Burkett with a score of 9.225, while Molly Mack led the team with a score of 9.25 on the balance beam; in the floor exercise, Violett Clonch posted the team's top score of 9.6, with Grace Wallace and Katherine Chernov each contributing strong scores of 9.45; and
WHEREAS, the Kempsville High School gymnastic team's historic victory reflects the team's dedication, discipline, and commitment to excellence, bringing pride and distinction to Kempsville High School and the Virginia Beach community; now, therefore, be it
RESOLVED by the House of Delegates, That the Kempsville High School gymnastics team hereby be commended on winning the Virginia High School League Class 5 state championship in 2026; and, be it
RESOLVED FURTHER, That the Clerk of the House of Delegates prepare a copy of this resolution for presentation to the Kempsville High School gymnastics team as an expression of the House of Delegates' admiration for the team's athletic achievements and best wishes for the future.
