Commending the Chatham Volunteer Fire Department.
Agreed to by the House of Delegates, March 9, 2026
WHEREAS, for more than 130 years, the Chatham Volunteer Fire Department has provided critical emergency services and other support to protect and safeguard the Chatham community; and
WHEREAS, after operating out of several locations over the years, the Chatham Volunteer Fire Department ultimately moved to its current location in 2007, a space that is equipped to meet the ever-growing needs of its firefighters and the community; and
WHEREAS, after acquiring its first pumper truck, a 1935 model open cab Ford with a 350-gallon booster tank, the Chatham Volunteer Fire Department has continually updated its equipment and apparatus to enhance its ability to fulfill its mission; and
WHEREAS, beyond its firefighting service, the Chatham Volunteer Fire Department plays a key role in beloved local traditions in Chatham, such as the annual July 4th parade and Christmas parade, and supports a number of local causes; and
WHEREAS, over the years, the Chatham Volunteer Fire Department has been led by a distinguished line of fire chiefs, including its current chief, Bobby Higgins; and
WHEREAS, through the integrity, dedication, and selfless service of its members, the Chatham Volunteer Fire Department has proved invaluable to the safety and well-being of the Chatham community; now, therefore, be it
RESOLVED by the House of Delegates, That the Chatham Volunteer Fire Department hereby be commended for its legacy of service; and, be it
RESOLVED FURTHER, That the Clerk of the House of Delegates prepare a copy of this resolution for presentation to the Chatham Volunteer Fire Department as an expression of the House of Delegates' admiration for the department's contributions to Chatham and the Commonwealth.
