Agreed to by the House of Delegates, March 9, 2026
WHEREAS, Clipse, a Virginia Beach-based hip-hop duo, won its first-ever Grammy Award at the 68th Annual Grammy Awards on February 1, 2026; and
WHEREAS, the members of Clipse, brothers Gene “Malice” Thornton and Terrence “Pusha T” Thornton, began performing together in the early 1990s and released their debut single “The Funeral” in 1999; and
WHEREAS, Clipse released three albums between 2002 and 2009, then went on hiatus while Malice and Pusha T pursued opportunities as solo artists; and
WHEREAS, in July 2025, Clipse released a critically acclaimed comeback album,
Let God Sort Em Out
, produced by fellow Virginia Beach native Pharrell Williams; and
WHEREAS, at the 68th Annual Grammy Awards, Clipse won the Grammy Award for Best Rap Performance with “Chains & Whips,” which featured Kendrick Lamar and Pharrell Williams; and
WHEREAS, Clipse was also nominated for Album of the Year and Best Rap Album of the year for
Let God Sort Em Out
, Best Rap Song for “The Birds Don't Sing,” and Best Music Video for “So Be It”; now, therefore, be it
RESOLVED by the House of Delegates, That Clipse hereby be commended on winning a Grammy Award for Best Rap Performance in 2026; and, be it
RESOLVED FURTHER, That the Clerk of the House of Delegates prepare a copy of this resolution for presentation to Gene and Terrence Thornton of Clipse as an expression of the House of Delegates' admiration for their contributions to the musical landscape of the Commonwealth.
