WHEREAS, Darrell R. Byers, an esteemed law-enforcement officer from Palmyra, retired from the Albemarle County Police Department in 2026; and
WHEREAS, Darrell Byers previously graduated from Liberty University, attended the National Criminal Justice Command College, and served as an officer with the University of Virginia Police Division; and
WHEREAS, Darrell Byers joined the Albemarle County Police Department (ACPD) in 2003 as a member of the patrol division and went on to serve in a variety of roles, including as public information officer; and
WHEREAS, as a result of his professionalism and commitment to excellence, Darrell Byers held leadership positions in several divisions, including internal affairs, patrol, special operations, professional standards, and criminal investigations, and attained the rank of captain; and
WHEREAS, throughout his career with the ACPD, Darrell Byers supported the agency's mission as a member of its defensive tactics team, crisis negotiation team, field training officer program, training and professional development unit, and peer support team; and
WHEREAS, Darrell Byers supported the long-term success of the ACPD and its officers by playing an instrumental role in the redevelopment of the agency's career development program; and
WHEREAS, beyond his law-enforcement career, Darrell Byers has brought years of experience and expertise to bear as the Culpeper District representative on the Commonwealth Transportation Board; and
WHEREAS, with an unwavering commitment to the safety and well-being of the citizens and community he served, Darrell Byers helped to make Albemarle County a wonderful place to live, work, and raise a family; now, therefore, be it
RESOLVED by the House of Delegates, That Darrell R. Byers hereby be commended on the occasion of his retirement from the Albemarle County Police Department; and, be it
RESOLVED FURTHER, That the Clerk of the House of Delegates prepare a copy of this resolution for presentation to Darrell R. Byers as an expression of the House of Delegates' admiration for his distinguished service and best wishes in his future endeavors.
