Commending Masjid Aliya.

WHEREAS, for many years, Masjid Aliya in Stafford County, also known as the Islamic Center of Stafford, has provided its congregation with uplifting spiritual guidance, joyful occasions for worship and prayer, and meaningful opportunities for charitable outreach; and
WHEREAS, Masjid Aliya began as a small group without a dedicated space that would meet regularly for prayer services, first at a local Wingate Hotel and later at a Boy Scouts of America meeting lodge; and
WHEREAS, after moving to its current location at 2604 Richmond Highway, members of Masjid Aliya were approached by Hamid Ali Khan, who shared his wish to establish a masjid in honor of his beloved late wife, Aliya Khan; and
WHEREAS, with a deep commitment to its mission and values, Masjid Aliya has continued to thrive over the years under the leadership of its imam, Sherif Shehata, while helping its members grow in their faith in a safe and inspiring space; and
WHEREAS, the members of Masjid Aliya work tirelessly to make a positive impact in the community through various endeavors, including by sponsoring a local food bank, youth group, and Sunday school, as well as by hosting Eid prayer services, community potlucks, barbecues, and a career development speaker series; and
WHEREAS, as a beacon of faith, dedication, and resilience, Masjid Aliya has made a profound and lasting impact on countless lives; now, therefore, be it
RESOLVED by the House of Delegates, That Masjid Aliya hereby be commended for its legacy of service; and, be it
RESOLVED FURTHER, That the Clerk of the House of Delegates prepare a copy of this resolution for presentation to Masjid Aliya as an expression of the House of Delegates' admiration for the masjid's contributions to Stafford County and the Commonwealth.
