WHEREAS, David Huchler, chief of police of the Metropolitan Washington Airports Authority, was named the Distinguished Alumni of the Department of Criminology, Law and Society by George Mason University's College of Humanities and Social Sciences in 2025; and
WHEREAS, in addition to holding a bachelor's degree in law enforcement and a master's degree in public administration from George Mason University, David Huchler is also a graduate of the FBI National Academy and the Police Executive Research Forum's Senior Management Institute for Police; and
WHEREAS, in 2018, after 26 years of dedicated service with the Alexandria Police Department, David Huchler became the chief of police of the Metropolitan Washington Airports Authority (MWAA), which oversees operations at Ronald Reagan Washington National Airport and Dulles International Airport; and
WHEREAS, as the leader of more than 240 sworn officers, 30 traffic control officers, and several civilian administrative personnel, David Huchler is responsible for managing one of the largest police authorities in Northern Virginia; and
WHEREAS, over his tenure as chief of police of the MWAA, David Huchler has enhanced the authority's ability to protect and serve the millions of passengers who pass through its airports each year by introducing new, advanced technologies and promoting evidence-based policies; and
WHEREAS, David Huchler consistently prioritizes collaboration, communication, and partnership with the community to ensure public safety and quality service at MWAA's airports; and
WHEREAS, David Huchler has advanced the law-enforcement profession as an adjunct professor in the Department of Criminology, Law and Society at George Mason University and as a member of the International Association of Chiefs of Police, the Virginia Association of Chiefs of Police, and the Police Executive Research Forum; and
WHEREAS, with an unwavering commitment to the community he serves, David Huchler has embodied the ideals of the law-enforcement profession, earning the praise and admiration of all Virginians; now, therefore, be it
RESOLVED by the House of Delegates, That David Huchler hereby be commended for being named the 2025 Distinguished Alumni of the Department of Criminology, Law and Society in George Mason University's College of Humanities and Social Sciences; and, be it
RESOLVED FURTHER, That the Clerk of the House of Delegates prepare a copy of this resolution for presentation to David Huchler as an expression of the House of Delegates' admiration for his achievements in service to the Commonwealth and best wishes for his continued success.
