Agreed to by the House of Delegates, March 9, 2026
WHEREAS, Daniel J. Schlitt, director of the Department of Recreation and Parks of the City of Falls Church, has admirably served the citizens of Falls Church for many years; and
WHEREAS, a graduate of Belmont Abbey College, Daniel “Danny” J. Schlitt joined the Department of Recreation and Parks of the City of Falls Church as a part-time recreation leader in 1990; and
WHEREAS, Danny Schlitt demonstrated exemplary professionalism and a commitment to excellence upon joining the department and was quickly promoted to a role as a full-time recreation program supervisor; and
WHEREAS, Danny Schlitt proved himself to be an invaluable member of the Falls Church Department of Recreation and Parks over the years, earning promotions to senior recreation program supervisor in 1999, deputy director in 2007, and director in 2011; and
WHEREAS, Danny Schlitt's accomplishments during his tenure as director include a scholarship initiative to improve access to Department of Recreation and Parks programs, various park and playground improvements, and support of the Falls Church Farmers Market, which received a Gold Certification from the Virginia Farmers Market Association in 2024 and has been named Northern Virginia's Best Farmers Market multiple times by
Northern Virginia Magazine
; and
WHEREAS, in recognition of his efforts in service to the community, Danny Schlitt was named Employee of the Year by the City of Falls Church in 1998; and
WHEREAS, Danny Schlitt has worked tirelessly to enhance the parks and recreational activities available to the residents and visitors of Falls Church, helping to make the city a wonderful place to live, work, and play; now, therefore, be it
RESOLVED by the House of Delegates, That Daniel J. Schlitt, director of the Department of Recreation and Parks of the City of Falls Church, hereby be commended for his 35 years of service on behalf of the citizens of Falls Church; and, be it
RESOLVED FURTHER, That the Clerk of the House of Delegates prepare a copy of this resolution for presentation to Daniel J. Schlitt as an expression of the House of Delegates' admiration for his contributions to Falls Church and the Commonwealth.
