WHEREAS, Bushcutz Grooming Lounge, a distinguished barbershop in the College Park area of Virginia Beach, celebrates its 10th anniversary in 2026; and
WHEREAS, established by Johnnie and Melodie Bush on September 21, 2016, Bushcutz Grooming Lounge is a cutting-edge, full-service, hair grooming facility that not only offers top-tier services but also fosters a vibrant social ambiance catering to patrons of all ages; and
WHEREAS, family-oriented and deeply rooted in community engagement, Bushcutz Grooming Lounge goes beyond mere hairstyling, hosting free back-to-school haircuts, backpack drives, and barber shop talks addressing pertinent social issues; and
WHEREAS, Bushcutz Grooming Lounge established its Bushcutz Barber Academy, a state-licensed barber school that provides aspiring barbers with a pipeline from training to employment by teaching them classic and modern barbering techniques and preparing them for the Virginia state license exam; and
WHEREAS, through its Bushcutz Barber Academy and other endeavors, Bushcutz Grooming Lounge has been a model of Black entrepreneurship, promoting economic development, workforce opportunities, and mentorship for inner-city youth; and
WHEREAS, with an unwavering commitment to its customers and the community it serves, Bushcutz Grooming Lounge has helped to make Virginia Beach a wonderful place to live, work, and raise a family; now, therefore, be it
RESOLVED by the House of Delegates, That Bushcutz Grooming Lounge hereby be commended for its legacy of service on the occasion of its 10th anniversary; and, be it
RESOLVED FURTHER, That the Clerk of the House of Delegates prepare a copy of this resolution for presentation to Johnnie and Melodie Bush, owners of Bushcutz Grooming Lounge, as an expression of the House of Delegates' admiration for the business's contributions to Virginia Beach and the Commonwealth.
