Commending the Lake Taylor High School football team.
Agreed to by the House of Delegates, March 10, 2026
WHEREAS, the Lake Taylor High School football team of Norfolk won the Virginia High School League Class 3 state championship on December 13, 2025, at Liberty University's Williams Stadium in Lynchburg; and
WHEREAS, the Lake Taylor High School Titans defeated the Kettle Run High School Cougars of Fauquier County by a score of 48–42 to capture the fourth title in program history and its first since 2019; and
WHEREAS, after going back and forth the entire contest, the Lake Taylor Titans sealed victory in the second overtime period after Kevin Adams intercepted a fourth down pass, then proceeded to throw a 26-yard touchdown reception to Casaun Hesson on the ensuing drive; and
WHEREAS, the Lake Taylor Titans' triumph was a total team effort, led by explosive offensive performances from Keon Johnson, who rushed for 89 yards and three touchdowns, and Kevin Adams, who had 129 rushing yards, 81 passing yards, and two touchdowns; and
WHEREAS, the Lake Taylor Titans showed extraordinary grit and determination as they came back from last year's disappointing 3–7 season to post a 13–2 record and win the state title; and
WHEREAS, in recognition of their contributions to the Lake Taylor Titans' championship season, Keon Johnson, Devaughn Powell, and Hank Sawyer were named Virginia High School League Class 3 Offensive Player of the Year, Defensive Player of the Year, and Coach of the Year, respectively; and
WHEREAS, the accomplishments of the Lake Taylor Titans are the result of the teamwork and perseverance of the student-athletes, the leadership and guidance of their coaches and teachers, and the unwavering support of their families and the entire Lake Taylor High School community; now, therefore, be it
RESOLVED by the House of Delegates, That the Lake Taylor High School football team hereby be commended for winning the 2025 Virginia High School League Class 3 state championship; and, be it
RESOLVED FURTHER, That the Clerk of the House of Delegates prepare a copy of this resolution for presentation to Hank Sawyer, coach of the Lake Taylor High School football team, as an expression of the House of Delegates' admiration for the team's achievement and best wishes for the program's continued success.
