Agreed to by the House of Delegates, March 10, 2026
WHEREAS, the Greenbox Foundation, a nonprofit organization dedicated to using the game of basketball as a tool to uplift and empower individuals and families in need, has greatly served the Hampton Roads community for several years; and
WHEREAS, the Greenbox Foundation was founded in 2017 by Darius James and Dasean Webster, whose first endeavor involved organizing a basketball tournament to assist the victims of Hurricane Maria in Puerto Rico; and
WHEREAS, following the success of this initial tournament, the Greenbox Foundation established its signature Ball for a Cause event, an annual holiday basketball tournament that raises funds for local charities and causes; and
WHEREAS, through Ball for a Cause, as well as its annual College Park Day event, the Greenbox Foundation creates safe, positive spaces for young people and families to gather, building connections across diverse communities and reducing barriers to participation in sports and community life; and
WHEREAS, by collaborating with local partners and investing time, resources, and energy into public spaces and family-focused programs, the Greenbox Foundation demonstrates a strong commitment to community engagement and the long-term growth and development of underserved areas in Hampton Roads; and
WHEREAS, through its efforts to foster youth empowerment, mentorship, and neighborhood pride, the Greenbox Foundation has made a profound and lasting impact on countless lives; now, therefore, be it
RESOLVED by the House of Delegates, That the Greenbox Foundation hereby be commended for its legacy of service in pursuit of its mission; and, be it
RESOLVED FURTHER, That the Clerk of the House of Delegates prepare a copy of this resolution for presentation to Darius James and Dasean Webster, founders of the Greenbox Foundation, as an expression of the House of Delegates' admiration for the organization's contributions to Hampton Roads and the Commonwealth.
