Celebrating the life of Zachary Wayne Reese.
Agreed to by the House of Delegates, February 2, 2026
WHEREAS, Zachary Wayne Reese, a dedicated firefighter who touched countless lives through his courage and professionalism and a highly admired member of the community in Raphine, died on August 27, 2025; and
WHEREAS, Zachary “Zack” Wayne Reese was born in Lexington and was inspired to pursue a career in public safety by his father, Steve, and his stepfather, Will, both of whom had worked as firefighters; and
WHEREAS, Zack Reese originally served as a member of Augusta County Fire-Rescue for 10 years, then joined the City of Staunton Fire Department in 2024; and
WHEREAS, over the course of his career, Zack Reese built strong bonds with his fellow firefighters and earned accolades for his hard work and commitment to safeguarding the community; and
WHEREAS, a man of deep faith, Zack Reese enjoyed fellowship and worship with the congregation of Raphine Christian Church; and
WHEREAS, Zack Reese was deeply dedicated to his family and relished every opportunity to encourage and uplift his children; he brought joy to everyone he met through his compassion, optimism, and generosity; and
WHEREAS, Zack Reese will be fondly remembered and greatly missed by his wife, Chelsea; his children, Braylee and Clay; his mother and stepfather, Mandi and William; his father, Steven; his siblings, Cody, Sadie, and Sophie; and numerous other family members and friends; now, therefore, be it
RESOLVED, That the House of Delegates hereby note with great sadness the loss of Zachary Wayne Reese; and, be it
RESOLVED FURTHER, That the Clerk of the House of Delegates prepare a copy of this resolution for presentation to the family of Zachary Wayne Reese as an expression of the House of Delegates' respect for his memory.
