Agreed to by the House of Delegates, March 10, 2026
WHEREAS, Lonnie M. Janes, a highly admired member of the Richmond community, died on October 25, 2025; and
WHEREAS, Lonnie Janes grew up in Charles City County and attended the former Ruthville High School, graduating with the Class of 1964; and
WHEREAS, after graduating high school, Lonnie Janes was employed by Smurfit-Stone Container Corporation, a major manufacturer of paperboard and paper-based packaging; and
WHEREAS, Lonnie Janes served the nation during the Vietnam War as a member of the United States Army, then returned to Smurfit-Stone Container Corporation and subsequently joined Deluxe Check Printers, where he worked from 1972 until his retirement in 2000; and
WHEREAS, Lonnie Janes began his journey in faith at a young age when he was baptized at St. John Baptist Church and remained an active and loyal member of the congregation throughout his life; and
WHEREAS, Lonnie Janes will be fondly remembered and greatly missed by his devoted wife of 57 years, Patricia, and numerous other family members and friends; now, therefore, be it
RESOLVED, That the House of Delegates hereby note with great sadness the loss of Lonnie M. Janes; and, be it
RESOLVED FURTHER, That the Clerk of the House of Delegates prepare a copy of this resolution for presentation to the family of Lonnie M. Janes as an expression of the House of Delegates' respect for his memory.
