Commending Beth Sholom Temple.
Agreed to by the House of Delegates, March 11, 2026
WHEREAS, Beth Sholom Temple, established on May 26, 1936, has served as a center of Jewish life, worship, education, and community in the Greater Fredericksburg area for 90 years; and
WHEREAS, Beth Sholom Temple is affiliated with the Union for Reform Judaism and welcomes individuals and families from diverse backgrounds, including Jews by birth and Jews by choice, interfaith families, and individuals of all ages and abilities; and
WHEREAS, Beth Sholom Temple fulfills its mission as a
beit knesset
, or “house of gathering,” by fostering fellowship and engagement through congregational life and youth and community organizations; and
WHEREAS, Beth Sholom Temple serves as a
beit tefillah
, or “house of prayer,” observing Shabbat and the Jewish calendar of festivals and holidays and providing opportunities for spiritual growth; and
WHEREAS, Beth Sholom Temple advances lifelong learning as a
beit midrash
, or “house of study,” through religious and Hebrew school programs, adult education, and Torah study; and
WHEREAS, Beth Sholom Temple acts as a
beit am
, or “house of community,” participating in civic life and social action in accordance with the Jewish tradition of
tikkun olam
, or “repairing the world”; and
WHEREAS, for nine decades, Beth Sholom Temple has contributed to the religious, educational, and civic life of Fredericksburg and the surrounding region, strengthening interfaith understanding and community engagement; now, therefore, be it
RESOLVED by the House of Delegates, That Beth Sholom Temple hereby be commended on the occasion of its 90th anniversary for its longstanding service to the Greater Fredericksburg area and the Commonwealth; and, be it
RESOLVED FURTHER, That the Clerk of the House of Delegates prepare a copy of this resolution for presentation to Beth Sholom Temple as an expression of the House of Delegates' admiration for the congregation's 90 years of faith, education, and community leadership.
