Commending the Bruton High School boys' indoor track and field team.
Agreed to by the House of Delegates, March 12, 2026
WHEREAS, the Bruton High School boys' indoor track and field team won the Virginia High School League Class 2 state championship, held at Liberty University, in March 2026; and
WHEREAS, the Bruton High School Panthers finished with 80 points, defeating the second-place team from Stuarts Draft High School by four points; and
WHEREAS, the victory was the third consecutive state championship win for the Bruton High School Panthers, and it was the team's fourth win in five years; and
WHEREAS, the Bruton Panthers' Johnie Askew won the 55-meter dash in 6.56 seconds and finished eighth in the 300-meter run, while senior Quinn Marcinek won the 55-meter hurdles in 7.65 seconds, was the runner-up in the triple jump, and placed third in the long jump; and Johan Arends finished seventh in the 55-meter hurdles at 8.33 seconds; and
WHEREAS, the Bruton Panthers' Jayden Curry won the 1,600-meter run in 4:20.63 and placed third in the 1,000-meter run; he also won the high jump by clearing 6–2, while teammate Nathaniel Overby came in third at 5–10; and
WHEREAS, seniors Jordan Bridges, Quinn Marcinek, Nathan Guerreiro, and Josiah Gallegos sealed the Bruton Panthers' victory in the final event, earning runner-up honors in 3:38.33 in the 4x400-meter relay; and
WHEREAS, the Bruton High School Panthers have won seven individual state titles and three relay state titles over a period of five years, defeating 32 other teams from around the Commonwealth; and
WHEREAS, the Bruton Panthers' victorious season is a tribute to the skill and hard work of all the student-athletes, the leadership and guidance of coaches and staff, and the unwavering support of the entire Bruton High School community; now, therefore, be it
RESOLVED, That the House of Delegates hereby commend the Bruton High School boys' indoor track and field team on winning the Virginia High School League Class 2 state championship; and, be it
RESOLVED FURTHER, That the Clerk of the House of Delegates prepare a copy of this resolution for presentation to the Bruton High School boys' indoor track and field team as an expression of the House of Delegates' admiration for the team's achievements.
